A do I need braces quiz. Do I need braces or should I get Invisalign? Do I really need any orthodontic treatment at all?” If you find yourself asking these questions, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed. To help you determine if you need to see an orthodontist, try this “Do I need orthodontics” quiz.
Why Do Teenagers Go for Invisalign? Teenagers today lead hectic lives that rival those of their busy parents. From an ever-increasing school workload to extra-curricular activities, part-time jobs, sports activities, drivers education classes and special events, life itself often feels like a contact sport.
How Much Does the Damon System Treatment Cost? The Damon system of braces is something you may be interested in because of the many benefits it can offer to you. It’s one of the newer types of treatments for problems such as overbites, underbites, crossbites, gaps and other issues. A skilled orthodontist can apply the Damon system treatment to your teeth and develop a recovery plan for you to bring your beautiful smile to your desired perfection. It may concern you about the cost of the Damon system, and that’s normal. The following is some information about Damon brackets, their cost and the benefits that choosing them can bring to you.
A bright, white smile with straight teeth is the goal when patients choose to use orthodontic braces to correct the alignment of their smile. But sometimes parts of the surface of a patient’s tooth become too white. Showing small white spots or patches, you may be experiencing what is known as white spot lesions (WSL). And your orthodontist may want you to take additional steps to prevent the spread of further white spots to the surfaces of your exposed teeth.
Avoid teeth removal for braces? Orthodontists sometimes use dental braces to deal with misaligned or crowded teeth. Having straight teeth helps to improve a person’s cosmetic appearance. Straight teeth also affect how a person chews their food. Dental patients often wonder whether their orthodontist will remove some teeth during treatment. Tooth extraction is not always a necessary treatment option. In most cases, orthodontists use other alternatives to treat their patients.
School has been in session for a whole month already, and it’s about time to get the creative juices flowing and help your children figure out what they’re going to wear for Halloween. Will it be a Despicable Me 3 costume? Wonder Woman? Or maybe a slice of bacon, because everyone loves bacon!
While you’re trying to figure that out, you may start thinking about the amount of candy that ends up in your home after a night of trick-or-treating. All that candy! The sugary bliss of a week full of candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ahhhh…..
This may trigger thoughts of ingenious ways of getting rid of all that candy… Take it to the office? “Trade it in” with your children, and have them choose their favorite toy? Throw it away? WAIT! There’s a better solution that you’re going to just love….
Bring your candy to a dentist’s office. Bringing your leftover Halloween candy to a dentist may not be the first thought that pops up in your mind, but guess what? Each year there are a handful of dentists in Reston, such as Dr. Tisseront’s orthodontic practice in the Plaza America shopping center, who offer to PAY you for your leftover Halloween candy. You heard me right: they PAY YOU!
However, not all Halloween candy buy-back programs are the same, and none give you as many reasons to donate your candy as Tisseront Orthodontics. Dr. Tisseront and his team are passionate about supporting our local community, and they do so through annual dental health elementary school visits, by supporting local lifeguards with towels for their uniforms, by sponsoring local children’s sports teams such as soccer and baseball and, finally, by holding their annual, extremely popular Halloween Candy Buy-Back event.
Dr. Tisseront and his team have been collecting your leftover Halloween candy for the past 10 years. Dr. Tisseront donates $2 per pound of candy: $1 goes to the child donating, and $1 goes directly to Children’s National Medical Center in D.C. But it doesn’t stop there. Not only do they donate money to a great cause, they package up the candy and deliver it to our troops overseas! A letter-writing station is also set up during the event so the community can write letters of appreciation and draw pictures to send to our troops; each box of candy is accompanied by two to three letters.
Each year, they collect over 1,000 pounds of leftover Halloween candy! Last year set . a record of 1,679 pounds, and they hope to top that this year, with your help.
THIS EVENT HAS ALLOWED DR. TISSERONT TO DONATE OVER $20,000 TO CHILDREN’S NATIONAL MEDICAL CENTER OVER THE YEARS.
Local businesses such as Pitango, Mayflowers, Ben & Jerry’s, Clyde’s and the Skating Rink at Reston Town Center have all donated prizes for this popular community event. Many students volunteer to box up all that candy as well, so if your child needs service hours, give us a call!
This year will mark the 12th Annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back event for Dr. Tisseront’s office. With a win-win all around, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Monday, November 6, from 12 to 4 p.m. You’ll be glad you did!

Then, all that candy is shipped overseas to our Troops! Help us beat our record of 1100 pounds last year! We’ll have a letter-writing station to write notes and draw pictures of gratitude to our Troops overseas, and we include these in the boxes we send! This traditional community event has fun for all with temporary tattoos, a raffle with donated prizes from local businesses, hot apple cider and balloons! We’ll also dance to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’! Our grand prize is a donated pair of Beats by Dr. Dre Solo 2’s from the Apple Store in Reston!

Your child just got their braces on over summer vacation and is still sporting the red, white and blue color bands she picked out to help celebrate Fourth of July! School is fast approaching and you’re just about to embark on the annual back-to-school shopping trip over the tax-free holiday set this year for August 5-7. So what will your child need in their backpack to make back-to-school with braces a breeze?
Here’s your list of backpack essentials!
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH BRACES BACKPACK ESSENTIALS
Rubber bands. Rubber bands are one of the most important parts of an orthodontic treatment if prescribed. Keeping a bag of rubber bands handy for ease of replacement is a great idea for keeping your child right on schedule with their treatment.
Dental wax. For the times there’s that one irritating spot or pokey wire, pack wax for comfort.
Retainer case. This is an important one! If your child goes to school with retainers or any other removable device, pack a case so the retainer doesn’t perform a disappearing act involving a napkin and a lunch tray…
KEEPING BRACES CLEAN IS IMPORTANT FOR A FABULOUS SMILE AFTER BRACES!
Lip balm. Some children find lip balm eases dry lips, which is common with braces. If you child uses it, pack it!
Mouthguard for sports. If your child is playing any kind of sports right after school, make sure to pack their mouth-guard to protect those precious pearly whites!
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY
If your child has something happen during the school day with their braces and you are not sure what to do: Have your child take a photo, or have the nurse take a photo and email or text it to your orthodontist. In most cases, whatever is happening is not urgent and can be taken care of over the phone immediately. And you’ve just saved yourself an extra visit to the orthodontist! Isn’t technology great!?
