Good Things Happen When You Smile

smiling

There’s no doubt that life hands us many experiences. The reality is that coping with loss is a fact of life, and all of us must go through it. The question is, how do we cope with the sadness that comes when a relationship ends?
Though the idea of “smiling through our tears” is a well-worn cliche, the truth is that finding a way to smile over a relationship, even when it ends, it s incredibly healing.

The 13th Century poet, Rumi, is often quoted for his wisdom, and his words can bring great solace to anyone seeking comfort after a loss. Rum wrote, “The wound is the place where the light enters you.” There’s no doubt Rumi would have advised anyone coping with loss to smile, and share their light with the world. What matters is that you smile, being grateful for what happened, instead of simply mourning the loss. Or said differently, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” If you have a beautiful smile courtesy of Invisalign braces placed with the help of an expert orthodontist, there’s much to be grateful for there as well.

Good Things Happen When You Smile

Why Is It Necessary to Visit Your Orthodontist Regularly?

Why Is It Necessary to Visit Your Orthodontist Regularly?

The role of your orthodontist is to provide reliable, convenient service that perfectly aligns and straightens your child’s teeth. Visiting the office regularly is a critical component in achieving a beautiful, healthy smile in a timely manner. Ensuring your child receives the very best care and has their braces removed in an appropriate amount of time is every parent’s ultimate goal. The completed smile’s unveiling is dreamed of and excitedly anticipated by each child along with their friends.

The Big Question: When?

The big question from day one is, “When will you have your braces removed?” The anticipation is just as great for those having their teeth adjusted invisibly with Invisalign or lingual treatment options as it is for kids wearing metal brackets and wires. The big day should be anticipated with excitement and here are some reasons why you should help your child to visit the orthodontic office regularly and follow the plan provided:

1. Beauty and appearance

Beauty and appearance are huge components in self-esteem and self-evaluation. How your child or teen senses they appear to others can benefit or hinder their self-esteem. Missing appointments or not regularly completing the monthly adjustments will delay treatment and withhold the gratification of having the treatment plan completed. Gratification is a big part of maturity but delayed gratification due to procrastination or missed appointments doesn’t lead to maturity. It leads to discouragement, frustration and possibly embarrassment.

2. Completion means they are growing up

Ah, the joy of growing up. While each day includes accomplishments, there are key accomplishments that mark growth for your child or teen, and the completion of their orthodontic treatment loudly announces that they have reached a marker in their healthy journey towards independence and maturity.

3. Convenience

Each kid excitedly anticipates the reduced responsibility that will be experienced when their treatment is completed and the next phase of retaining their perfect smile begins.

4. Accomplishment-

Great joy is experienced when a project is completed or a landmark in life has been achieved. This accomplishment is huge and the joy will be great.

Estimated Treatment Time

Treatment plans are created before the treatment begins, and the time of the plan can range from six to thirty months. Treatment plans are clinically flexible but follow a monthly plan of action that is cumulative, so missing appointments will hinder and affect the flow of the treatment. The length of the orthodontic plan and its success rests largely on the patient following their home care instructions and regularly visiting their orthodontic office.

Your role as a parent is constantly evolving and your orthodontist will take this one responsibility completely out of your hands and strategically evaluate every professional detail and carefully complete the plan in full. Your parental responsibility is important to the process of tooth straightening, but it is limited and easy to accomplish.

  1. Oversee and encourage consistent compliance with home care instructions
  2. Consistently drive your child or teen to each of the scheduled appointments
  3. Arrive on time for each scheduled appointment

Benefits of a Great Smile

Giving your child the gift of a great smile is a gift that will last a lifetime. Each glance into the mirror will reward your child during their teen years and adulthood. The benefits to having straight teeth and a beautiful smile are innumerable.

  • Builds self-esteem and confidence while encouraging a child to reach for goals that may require some physical discomfort, commitment to dietary restrictions, and following a set projected plan.
  • A great smile is socially beneficial to teens and adults.
  • A great smile is a step toward achieving a successful interview that leads to a job, acceptance into a desired college or university or towards a life goal that your child is dreaming of reaching.
  • Teens and adults who have beautiful, straight smiles may have a greater opportunity for promotions.
  • The physical and beautification benefits of a great smile are well worth the commitment needed to accomplish the treatment in the time originally allotted. Successful orthodontic treatment will treat smiles with issues such as misaligned jaws, overbites and crooked teeth.

Treatment Options that Teens Love

Having your child or teen commit to an orthodontic treatment plan is easier when you offer invisible options. Invisalign treatments use clear aligners that can be removed while eating. This allows for easier daily hygiene and it requires less dietary changes or considerations. This treatment plan is not an option for all tooth straightening needs, but it is effective in treating a number of common dental issues.

Lingual braces offer invisible straightening opportunities that can’t be addressed with clear aligners. The brackets are hidden behind the teeth and face the tongue. The length of the treatment plan is comparable to exposed, traditional metal brackets.

Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.

smile quotes

Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.

You might cry at special events such as graduations or weddings, but you should smile because it happened rather than crying because it is over. If you avoid smiling in public, then visit an orthodontist for an evaluation to determine if you need braces or aligners. When you have misaligned teeth, you can experience pain in your jaw joint or have earaches, and the discomfort from crooked teeth can make you cry. However, if you undergo orthodontic treatment, then you will have straight teeth along with a strong bite that will not cause pain.

Orthodontic Treatment Makes It Easier to Brush Your Teeth

When you begin orthodontic treatment, there is an adjustment time that might feel slightly painful, but you can take analgesic medications or drink cool beverages to soothe your mouth. You may feel like crying during the first few days of treatment, but after your teeth are straightened, you will have a beautiful smile. There are great reasons for visiting an orthodontist to begin wearing Invisalign aligners or braces, including being able to chew nutritious fresh vegetables. When your teeth have the proper spacing, it is also easier to perform oral hygiene on a daily basis with a toothbrush and floss.

Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.

A smile is the key that fits the lock of everybody’s heart.

smileSmile While You Are Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment to Straighten Your Teeth

If you want to become close friends with someone, then make sure to smile because it will unlock their heart. To have an attractive smile, make sure to go to an orthodontic office for a thorough evaluation with medical images to determine if you need aligners or braces. If you have mild malocclusions, then you can wear soft and comfortable Invisalign aligners for less than a year to improve your smile. Alternatively, when you have wide spaces between your teeth or when you have serious misalignment, an orthodontist will recommend long-term treatment with metal or ceramic devices instead.

Brackets and Wires on Orthodontia Are Often Made of Metal Just Like Keys

Keys are made of metal, and some children or adults will need to wear old-fashioned metallic braces to straighten their teeth. Traditional orthodontic treatment is an affordable option, but you can also choose ceramic or lingual devices to repair your malocclusions. You can begin to smile while undergoing orthodontic treatment because no one is going to laugh about the wires and brackets on your teeth. In some cases, you will begin to make new friends after visiting an orthodontist because they are also undergoing treatment to straighten their teeth.

The Importance of Wearing Retainers After Treatment

retainers

You will probably be ecstatic when your braces are taken off. The sensation of smooth teeth on your tongue is the reward for many months or years of orthodontia treatment. However, your teeth-straightening days aren’t entirely over. You’ll receive a retainer after the brackets are taken off. Don’t discount the importance of the retainer, however, because it’s still an intricate part of your overall treatment. Take a deeper look at the importance of wearing a retainer so that you’ll remember it as a priority.

Teeth Naturally Move Over Time

Your teeth may look like they’re lined up as tightly as possible, but they can still move. The jaw, gums and chewing movement will all contribute to the teeth moving over time if you don’t wear the retainer as directed. The retainer normally has a fitted palate and wire construction that holds all of your teeth in place. Without this placeholder, the teeth have a chance to turn, tilt and become crooked once again. Your orthodontist might tell you that a person with perfect teeth may wear a retainer at night for the rest of their lives. This maintenance secret is how patients with fantastic smiles keep them so perfect.

The Wisdom Teeth Factor

Most people who wear orthodontia brackets are usually in elementary, middle or high school. This time period is perfect for teeth and jaw alignment as the body is still developing. As patients graduate to retainers, they’re normally close to the time when wisdom teeth erupt. By diligently wearing the retainer, patients maintain the necessary space in their jaw for the new teeth. In some cases, wisdom-teeth removal can be avoided with retainers in place almost 24 hours a day. If the teeth shift when a retainer isn’t worn, wisdom-teeth surgery is almost always necessary. Avoiding an extraction process is a good motivation for any patient.

Avoiding Braces Again

Wearing retainers after treatment is also critical when you want to avoid a repeat treatment with brackets and wires. If you neglect to wear the retainer, the teeth will eventually move into crooked positions. A worst-case scenario would involve brackets and wires placed back on your teeth. Although you might opt for Invisalign products at this stage, you’re still repeating a process that can be ultimately avoided. Some insurance policies may not cover a second round of orthodontia treatment when it was already covered in previous years. The simple act of sliding the retainer on will reduce the chances of requiring more extensive orthodontia treatment in the future.

Curbing Teeth Grinding

Regardless of the type of retainer that you wear, it does hold your jaw in a certain position. This orientation helps during sleep, especially if you grind your teeth. Because the retainer doesn’t allow free movement of your mouth during rest, the teeth won’t be subjected to hours of grinding action. When you don’t grind your teeth, the edges remain smooth and the alignment maintains its perfect position. It’s possible to cause a shift in the teeth if you don’t wear the retainer and grinding is an issue. You’ll notice that the retainer is more difficult to slide on after neglecting to wear it over a long time period. A week without a retainer is often long enough to make a negative impact on your smile.

Maintaining That Perfect Smile

The main motivation to wear your retainer is merely smile aesthetics. You want to keep that brilliant smile that’s been carefully carved out over many months of treatment. The retainer may seem like an overreaction to possible movement, but it truly works as a placeholder. As kids grow into the teen years and beyond, their teeth will slowly shift into a permanent position. The retainer is mainly there to stop any small aberrations from occurring. If one tooth shifts, the entire smile can be negatively affected and extensive repairs may need to be made.

When to Wear the Retainer

Your orthodontist will give you strict instructions about the retainer and its use. At first, you’ll probably wear it 24 hours a day except during meals. You might follow this guideline for one year or more. After a set time period, the professional will usually ask you to wear it only at night. It’s easy to forget about the retainer when it’s only a nighttime habit, however. Try to remind yourself with alarms and other tricks in order to keep up with the treatment. The professional will adjust the retainer at each appointment as you move forward from the initial brackets and wires.

Different Retainer Types

You might notice that you have a choice between two different retainer types, such as:

• Fixed

• Removable

A fixed retainer is actually bonded to the teeth with a corresponding wire. You keep this retainer on for as long as the professional deems necessary. It’s a more permanent way to keep your teeth as straight as possible. Removable retainers, in contrast, are easily slid in and out of the mouth. You’re responsible for their use as dictated by the professional.

The Importance of Wearing Retainers After Treatment

Smile and forgive; it’s the only way to live.

smileOne of the most welcome sights in the world is a smile of forgiveness. Everyone wants to put conflict in the past and move forward with a sense of peace. A smile conveys that transition from holding a grudge to offering an olive branch. A radiant smile can be the most memorable feature on any face. Have you done all you can to make your smile the best it can be?

A qualified orthodontist can do wonders to maximize your smile and make it memorable to everyone. Here are a few options.

Straighten and align teeth.

A comprehensive exam can determine what procedures are needed to move teeth into their natural positions. It may be as simple as removing wisdom teeth. More often, however, braces might be prescribed for treatment to help move teeth into their designated areas. Teeth that are crooked or twisted can be adjusted. A patient who is self-conscious about wearing braces may be interested in treatment like Invisalign that others will probably not notice. Braces and wires are applied behind the teeth for minimal visibility.

Adjust the jaw line.

Someone with an uneven bite, such as an overbite or under bite, may benefit from treatment that brings the bite into balance. Problems such as TMJ, or Temporomandibular joint disorders, can be addressed as well.

Correct related issues.

Other problems could include being tongue tied, or ankyloglossia. This is generally addressed with a simple surgical procedure. Permanent teeth that have not yet erupted through the gum can be adjusted to descend naturally into their proper location.

A smile is the most beautiful curve on a woman’s body

smile

Nothing makes you more beautiful than a smile. Gently upturned lips over well cared for teeth are the perfect symbol of health and beauty. However, not everyone is born with perfect teeth. An orthodontist can examine your teeth and recommend helpful procedures to make your smile the best it can be.

Your teeth will be evaluated

The orthodontist will check your teeth to evaluate their condition and see if any are missing. Some may not have come through the gum line yet. Wisdom teeth might have erupted, or may do so eventually. Missing teeth, chipped teeth, or crooked teeth will be noted for possible treatment with braces and wires. Moving all teeth into their natural position is one of the first steps to a perfect smile. The good news is that treatments like Invisalign minimize the appearance of braces so that hardly anyone will notice.

Your bite will be checked.

Each patient’s overbite an under bite will be checked to see if both sets of teeth connect appropriately for proper chewing of food. And overbite or under bite can cause problems not only in chewing food, but also jn appearance. A bite that is off can often be fixed for both functional and cosmetic benefits. Invisalign braces might be recommended for moving teeth into their natural positions, which will help to make the bite even.

Special issues will be identified.

A small oral cavity, a large tongue, or other unusual features will become part of the patient’s record. If they cannot be treated during the orthodontia process, the patient may be referred to a specialist. For example, receding gum line may need to have a gum tissue graft to build up the area for orthodontic treatment.

A smile is the most beautiful curve on a woman’s body

Use your smile to change this world, but don’t let the world change your smile.

smile quotes

A glowing smile brings a great deal of joy to the person who wears it and to the people who see it. However, some individuals think that the benefits of a smile are purely abstract; that is not the case, and a smile can actually help people to make real changes.

Obtain Opportunities

If you have older kids or teenagers, they might be going on some of their first job interviews. While hiring teams look at an array of criteria, they way that your kids act doing the interviews can play a role in how they are perceived. Youngsters who smile during the interview allude to the fact that they are eager about the job and happy to be on the premises of the job, which can help with their chances.

Volunteering

No matter how old your kids are, you can encourage them to volunteer in some capacity. For example, you might all go to a soup kitchen together to help feed people who are hungry, or you may clean up a local park with the community. If your kids smile while they work, they are showing the good in humanity and might motivate other people to join in on the efforts.

Inspiration for Braces

The first time that you brought your kids to the orthodontist, they were probably nervous. Now, getting their braces checked out and tightened have become regular parts of their routine. When they smile at other kids in their class, whether with their Invisalign or other gear, they can inspire these youngsters to not have such fears of the orthodontist. In fact, they might start talking with their friends about what the process is like.

The Importance of Wearing Retainers after Treatment

bracesThe Importance of Wearing Retainers after Treatment

The big day has arrived for your braces to come off, and you are so excited to finally see that beautiful smile! While you will be free from some of the restrictions that were involved with your past treatment plan, you should be aware that keeping that smile straight still requires some additional care. Now that you have graduated to the retention phase of your treatment, you will be fitted with a customized retainer designed to preserve all that hard work you have already put in to your smile. As you progress through your treatment plan, keep in mind the following reasons why wearing retainers is essential for achieving the best results for your smile.

Prevent Teeth Movement

Many people are unaware that teeth shift continuously throughout life. While older people may notice changes in the way their teeth fit due to gum disease or tooth loss, children are especially prone to shifting teeth because their jaws and ligaments are still growing. Whether you have had Invisalign or traditional metal braces, your teeth will be vulnerable to shifting back into their old position if there is not something holding them in place. When this happens, it is called relapse, and it usually requires another round of treatment to put your teeth back into their desired places. This is not only frustrating, but it delays the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a properly aligned set of teeth. Wearing a retainer provides the subtle support your teeth need to stay exactly where you want them.

Promote Gum and Bone Realignment

While most people are only concerned with the smile they see in the mirror, you should be aware that there is so much more going on beneath the surface. When your orthodontist prepared your treatment plan, they took into consideration that your gums and underlying jaw bones take longer to get into alignment than your teeth. It is also important to note that your teeth are not firmly fixed in your jaw by just the bone. Instead, ligaments connect the tooth root to the bone and work similar to elastic. Because of this, your teeth move slightly in response to movements, and adding tension influences the growth of bone and ligaments. Your retainer helps these parts of your smile to align by placing gentle tension on the ligaments and tendons surrounding your teeth until the tissues become stabilized.

Understand the Retention Phase

After completing your first phase of treatment, it may be disheartening to discover that you still have further to go. Yet, wearing your retainer according to your treatment plan will often mean that you can eventually start wearing it less often. At first, you may be required to wear your retainer for the majority of the day. Then, as your teeth begin to stay aligned, you may be able to start wearing it only overnight. In some instances your retainer may be permanently fixed in your mouth until you move on to the maintenance phase of your treatment. Today, many professionals recommend wearing a retainer for the life of the patient after treatment, yet it may be possible to reduce the amount of time you wear it to only a couple times a week overnight if you show definite progress. Since the retention phase varies among individual patients, it is best to follow the instructions provided by your orthodontist.

Care for Your New Retainer

Taking care of your retainer will not only keep it in top condition, but it will also have a positive effect upon your oral hygiene. Make sure to remove your retainer before eating, and place it in a safe place. Kids who wear their retainer to school should also carry its container since wrapping it in a napkin is one of the most common ways for them to be accidentally thrown away at lunch. It is also important to remove your container if you will be playing a contact sport such as football. Just make sure to put it back in when you are through.

Depending upon the type of retainer you have, you may need to soak it in a cleansing solution, or you may be able to clean it similar to your Invisalign mouth piece. Always follow the instructions for cleaning your specific retainer, and avoid placing it near hot appliances that could warp its shape. If your retainer does get lost or broken, make sure to have it replaced or repaired right away. It only takes a short time for teeth to fall out of alignment, and its possible that a new retainer could be made from your current impression.

Enjoy Greater Confidence

Once you love your smile, you want to enjoy it. The last thing you need is to worry about your teeth shifting out of place again. Since a smile is an investment that will last a lifetime, you want to do your part to keep it perfect. Wearing your retainer may take some getting used to initially, but you can minimize any discomfort by giving your mouth time to adjust to your new oral appliance. This way, you can smile with confidence while knowing that you are doing everything right to preserve your smile.
